Ethos was founded in 1984 and was the pioneer in South African private equity having brokered the first private equity-led acquisitions in the country. Ethos progressed into a broader investment firm in 2016, where it managed investments in private equity and credit strategies in South Africa and selectively in sub-Saharan Africa.
Thereafter, Ethos Capital was launched as an investment medium listed on the JSE, intended to provide investors long term capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of unlisted investments managed by Ethos Private Equity, the largest private equity firm in sub-Saharan Africa.
Ethos’s long-term success may be accredited to the institutionalising of a set of fundamental capabilities which bolster their investment approach, that approach has allowed them to provide a flexible strategy that is specifically tailored to investments within the South African and sub-Saharan markets.
